Matthew 7:24-27 says, “Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not:for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell:and great was the fall of it.”
As we have discussed for days, the foundation of a godly and blessed life is not just in hearing God’s word, but it is doing God’s word. The strength of influence that last is in living according to God’s character and His will. When we look into the mirror of God’s word, we see that Jesus died for our sins, so it would be possible for us to be reconciled to God. We see that by believing in Jesus Christ, we can be His forever. We see our sin in the light of God’s holiness, and how we can be transformed through the power of His gospel. God also shows us from His word that taking heed to His divine precepts and principles is the way to build a strong life and legacy. Jesus teaches us this great truth by using an analogy about two men; one that builds a house upon sand and the other that builds a house on a strong bedrock. When the storms come, and they will, only the house that is built on the rock of the word of God will stand. The way to ensure that the foundation of your life and legacy will stand through the storms, is to be obedient to God’s word. The late Vance Havner once said, “Sitting in a church house doesn’t make someone a Christian any more than sitting in a hen house makes one a chicken.” Just because you go to church doesn’t mean you have built your house on the rock, but living in obedience to God and His word does. Listen to His spirit and follow his ways fully today. Set your heart to being a doer of the word, and watch your life stand firm. GOD’S MAN CHALLENGE: Show your wisdom today by taking heed to God’s living word. GOD’S MAN PRAYER: Lord, Help me hide thy word in my heart, that I will not sin against Thee. Amen.
